Next Chapter of the move: The Mattresses

I know I haven't been posting much.
I've been so busy cleaning, organizing, working, and whatnot with the new apartment.  There's a lot more pressing matters at hand.  But, just to keep things going, I'll tell you the next part of my move at least. Next post will be about food. Promise.

At our old apartment, we had a serious problem with bed bugs.  They were in the building before we moved in, but the landlord never told us.  They had come in, sprayed (Supposedly) , did something to our beds, and so on and so fourth, but its effectiveness was null.  They eventually gave up and we had to live with it.  So, when we were finally moving, we made the decision to throw our old beds out and get brand new ones.

On the same weekend that our household was infected with the zombie, breakout, 28 days later, belly plague, we had gone mattress shopping.  Before then, I had tossed around a few days, went to a few different stores, but had made no real decisions.

Since my dad was coming down, (this was before I had told him to wait till the next weekend), we wanted to get our beds ready so that we could sleep where our stuff was after it got moved.  So, after a little shopping around, we decided on the place that was going to get our mattress to us the soonest. Luckily, they had the most comfy mattresses anyway.  After a little negotiating on delivery, the salesman said we could have it the next day.  SOLD.  Really, that's when we needed it.   But when we got to the register and he looked up the delivery schedule, he had bad news.  Caleb's twin was available for delivery, but our queen would have to be on back order. It would have to be delivered NEXT Saturday. We figured we could get an air mattress for the week.  It would only be a week, right?

The rest of the day was explained in the previous chapter I wrote on St Patrick's day.

The following day, I forced myself to get to the new apartment and wait for the delivery people.  Oh I was so sick.  Thankfully, we had the blanket from the night before, so I laid it on the tile and laid down to wait for the mattress.  The mattress came, I confirmed with the delivery people that the queen would be delivered next Saturday, and the rest of the day doesn't merit a story.

We spent the week sleeping on the air mattress (which, I credit partially to my back problems) but Saturday came pretty quick.  We waited.  We waited.  And we waited some more.  Finally, I called Metro Mattress, and they said that it was NOT scheduled to be delivered today and that there actually was no delivery scheduled.  It was 'pending' as if they needed to set up a time.  The woman was very rude, but I did manage to keep my cool until we arranged for the mattress to be delivered on Monday.  Two more friggin days of sleeping on the air mattress.  I can't remember the exact times we had set up, but I knew that I would be home on time from work to let the mattress in.
The weekend was productive at least.  On Sunday, my father came down with his truck and we moved a good 90% of our stuff over before we all exhausted ourselves. The old apartment was on the third floor, so carrying things down those stairs was painful, but at least we got most of it done.  He even set up my antique princess bed for me.  It used to be my mother's, but she moved to a smaller apartment that couldn't house it, so I snagged it.
Monday came, and while I was at work, I got a call confirming that I would be home in order to get the mattress. Unfortunately, the time they said on the confirmation call was not the time I had agreed on.  Basically, they said tough luck and if I couldn't get out of work in time, I'd have to reschedule.  Well, I was not home in time, and they gave me another call.  I told them they needed to come back, but the lady said they couldn't.  ARGH!  They wanted me to wait another freakin week!  No way! I told them to just take it to the local store and I would pick it up myself. Thankfully, they agreed.
After work, I drove over to Lowes to rent a truck.  GREAT service.  I've rented from them several times.  I get there, walk in, and they ask for my insurance.  No problem.  I think... I think I have it here somewhere.  No.  Had I really been driving without my insurance card?  Crap.  -_-.
I excused myself and quickly ran to the library in order to print up the card from their printer.  My printer was out of ink.  The closest library wasn't open yet!  Luckily, the one closest to my house was and I got a few copies printed, but by then I didn't have enough time to get the truck, get the mattress, take it home, and return the truck, before Caleb got home from school.
When he got home, we quickly ran out to rent the truck.  This time, the rental was smooth.  Then, we had an hour of rental time before they charged me extra, but when we got to the truck, we realized the bed was FILLED with snow.  We had no broom, no shovel, so what did we do?  Got in the bed and started kicking the snow out into the parking lot.  It was kinda fun, but time consuming. We still had enough time to do everything, though.  The  men at Metro Mattress were even gentlemanly enough to load the mattresses into the bed.
After the truck had been returned, and the mattress was in the living room, I soon realized that it wasn't going to fit in the stairway.  AAGH!  Kana was at work, and it was just me, but I really wanted to have it set up before she got home.  Oh what a nice surprise it would be.
I'm an ARMY brat, and I moved a lot when my parents were together.  And when my mother was going to school, we moved a lot then, too.  And when I was on my own, I moved a lot.  In my life time, I've tallied over 30 moves.  So, and I hate to brag, but I've developed some serious skills and those skills came into good use.  At great expense to my back and time, I managed to move, shift, tilt, turn, and shove that queen sized box spring and mattress up those freakin stairs.  HAZAA!  I can finally sleep on my big, big bed!!! No more air mattress!  Look! It's wonderful!
See the deflated air mattress on the bottom left?

That's the story of the mattresses.  Next, I'll cover the hell with Time Warner Cable.  In fact, the story is almost just like this one, only with internet!
